2010 Conference program

Program

The Scientific Committee for ALA 2010 has attempted an ambitious undertaking – to develop a scientific program with something for everyone. A program that responds to feedback from previous conferences; blends scientific rigour with authentic clinical practice; and creates a learning environment where the past informs the future, without forgetting that neither can be recognised or possible without knowing what’s topical right now. You will be the judge as to whether we have been successful in these aims.

The Scientific Committee has taken a novel approach to programming and is introducing for the first time a case-based thread during the conference. This approach has proven to be engaging to both clinicians and researchers alike as it specifically promotes the application of research outcomes to a clinical setting. The result is a goldfish bowl for evidence-based practice in action. Throughout the ALA 2010 Conference, these hypothetical cases will be addressed and developed further by invited speakers and workshop presenters to see how their clinical problems may be dealt with by the interdisciplinary team.

2.10 Open Forum: Hot Topics in Lymphology, facilitated by Professor Neil Piller, Flinders University, SA. This session will touch on what's new or controversial in the field of lymphology and which may have come to light during the Conference. So, what might be 'hot' in lymphology in May 2010? What could be new or controversial? For example:
  • What will knowledge of genetics mean for the person 'at risk' of lymphoedema?
  • Is MLD friend or foe?
  • Can we avoid the potential spread of cancer cells when treating people with lymphoedema?
  • How does knowledge of lymphangiogenesis and lymph system anatomy help us?
  • Come along and find out what the next challenges are going to be as we are inspired for the future.
